Smoke Drifts Into Temecula, Murrieta As Brush Fire Burns At Pendleton

There was no immediate threat to personnel or structures, base officials said.

CAMP PENDLETON, CA — A brush fire burning at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton was sending smoke into Southwest Riverside County on Thursday, but base officials said there was no immediate threat to personnel or structures.

The blaze, announced around 3 p.m. on Camp Pendleton social media platforms, was burning in the X-ray impact area of the base (see map below).

Base officials had announced a prescribed burn Thursday.

"Prescribed burns are fires set intentionally by a team of experts for management objectives," the base reported.
