Temecula Area CHP Investigates Hit-And-Run Of Elderly Man

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — The California Highway Patrol is searching for a motorist who hit and elderly man as he was crossing the roadway, leaving him for dead.

CHP Officer Mike Lassig says the incident happened Thursday around 8:20 p.m. on State Route 74, just east of Agnew Avenue, in the Homeland area.

The 85-year-old man, who has not been publicly identified, was walking southbound across the street when a person in a white truck approached, driving westbound, according to Lassig.

"[The truck driver] failed to see [the man] directly in his path and struck [the man] with the front of [the truck]," a CHP report states. "[The truck driver] failed to stop and fled the scene..."

The man died at the scene within just minutes, according to a coroner's report. He was a resident of Romoland.
