TEMECULA, CA — The champion Temecula Valley High School girls soccer team added two more accolades to its trophy case this month, taking home both player and coach of the year honors.

The LA84 Foundation announced its 2021-22 girls soccer All-CIF Southern Section selections. Temecula Valley midfielder Natalie Mitchell, a senior won player of the year, and Jennifer Guinn took home coach of the year.

The honors come after the Golden Bears (24-1-1) defeated the San Marcos Knights (18-6-3) earlier this month to claim the title of state champions.

Four players — three seniors and a junior — on the Golden Bears were named to the All-CIF team: Mitchell, forward Kate Jacobsen, midfielder Peyton Bundy and defender Zoe Willis, a junior.

Mitchell told Patch in a statement she was "extremely honored and thrilled" to win the award, but said her greatest goal was "always to win CIF and State."

"I truly do believe that being able to play with this team my senior year was the greatest gift and privilege," Mitchell said. "I owe a lot of my success to them and am extremely thankful for receiving this award."

Guinn told Patch in an email she was honored to hold the title of coach of the year, and called it "surreal."

"I put so much into this job and my program, and I am just so blessed to be surrounded by amazing staff and athletes that all buy in and have the same winning mindset as me," Guinn said. "I feel as though winning the titles with the girls and my coaching staff was an amazing accomplishment in itself, and will forever be etched in my heart. The award is just the cherry on top."

Three players from the Santiago Sharks were named to the All-CIF team, as well as two players each from Etiwanda, Harvard Westlake, Los Alamitos, Newport Harbor, San Clemente, and Villa Park.
