Woodchuck Fire Burns 26 Acres Outside Temecula

As of Saturday morning, the fire was 90 percent contained.

TEMECULA, CA -- One of two wildland fires that erupted Friday in the Temecula area was 90 percent contained as of Saturday morning. Fire officials said the fire, which sparked at Highway 79 and Woodchuck Road in the unincorporated area outside of Temecula, burned 26 acres.

The Woodchuck Fire erupted around 5:36 p.m., prompting the response of more than 100 firefighters, officials said.

No injuries or evacuations were reported as a result of the fire.

The Woodchuck Fire was one of two that sparked Friday. The Tornado Fire erupted around 2:48 p.m. on Via Santa Rosa, burning more than 70 acres.

In the latest update, officials said the fire was 70 percent contained.
