This favored clothing resale shop shuttered months ago, leaving workers and sustainable shoppers in a lurch. On Tuesday, that changed.

TEMECULA, CA — Throw open those closet doors! A popular resale clothing store in Southwest Riverside County, known for buying and selling gently used items, from designer clothes, shoes, and accessories to fast fashion, will reopen on Tuesday.

Plato's Closet resale store, located at 41377 Margarita Rd #102, has reopened in it's original location in the Ring Road area of Promenade Temecula Mall. That space was occupied by the clothing resellers since 2016, until it shuttered in January of 2025. It was known as a staple for area residents' closet clean-outs for cash. At that time, approximately 10 store employees lost their jobs.

From July 1 through July 6, during grand opening week, there is a flurry of prizes you can enter to win, from Tate McRae tickets to Padres vs. Dodgers tickets and gift cards. If you shop on July 6, you'll get double reward points, they say.

If you want to sell, bring your gently used, freshly laundered items in a container or bag.

"Our certified buyers will check you in, and review your items based on style, brand, condition, and store needs," a shopkeeper said. "We'll give you an offer, and you'll get cash on the spot for any items we take!"

No appointment is required to bring in items for evaluation and sale. "Our systems price everything at a percentage off retail, and you get 30 to 40 percent of that back," they said. "We currently do not have a limit on how many bags or containers you can bring in."

Note, no formal wear or children's clothing is accepted.

Garments sold inside the store will run between 50 to 70 percent of retail prices. If you had old Plato's points, those will not transfer to the new shop, they say, as they had to reset the setup.

Patch was told that the former owner decided to shutter the shop to spend more time with family. Patch has reached out to Winmark regarding the new shop owner and will release more information when it is received.

For weeks in advance of its reopening, Plato's Closet asked fans to bring in their gently used clothing for sale and store credit, filling their racks with the cast-off garments.
