Food Truck Festival Postponed to Next Week

The Union City Chamber of Commerce will host several Gourmet Food Truck Festival events this summer featuring mobile restaurants from across the Bay Area. The first will be June 30 at Union Landing.

A series of originally scheduled to kick off today in Union City has been postponed to next Thursday.

The ’s Gourmet Food Truck Festival series was delayed because of permit issues with the city, according to Dana Hernandez, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce.

The events, held in conjunction with Fremont-based burger and BBQ vendor Grill Stars Curbside Cuisine, will begin June 30 at 4 p.m. at Union Landing and continue every other Thursday in Union City, Hernandez said.

“Bring your friends, family and a hearty appetite,” Hernandez said.

The Gourmet Food Truck Festival will feature a variety of mobile restaurants, an increasingly popular trend in the Bay Area. Events such as "Off the Grid" in San Francisco and "SJ Eats" in San Jose have become go-to destinations for foodies and can draw up to 20 or more different vendors and hundreds of attendees.

Union City’s event will be similar, and Hernandez expects more than a dozen mobile restaurants from around the Bay Area at the local event. Though a full list of participants had not yet been released, Hernandez said the variety of vendors will feature “just about any ethnic palate imaginable.”

The gatherings will also drum up support for local businesses, Hernandez said.

“The feedback from businesses in cities where these events have been held has been very positive,” she said.

Hernandez hopes the festivals will bring the community, local businesses and nonprofit organizations together.

Businesses and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to participate as informational vendors, Hernandez said.

The first event in Union City will be held near  from 4 to 8 p.m. on June 30. Seven to eight food trucks are expected to participate. Though locations have not yet been finalized, events will continue through the summer and culminate with a larger event on Aug. 20 featuring 20 food trucks, Hernandez said.
