According to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report, the statewide average is $3.81 for a gallon of regular unleaded, far higher than the national average of $3.43.

If you've paid attention, you've noticed prices jumping almost daily. In fact, the state and national averages jumped four cents between March 2 and March 3. Just a month ago, the California average was $3.36. And though it may have seemed outrageous a year ago, some of us might be willing to lose our morals to pay $3.01 again.
The recent price hikes are due to tensions in the Middle East and Northern Africa and fear that oil supplies may be disrupted, according to a AAA market report released Monday.
