Arrest in Case of Girl Groped Near Kennedy Park

A Union City man was arrested Tuesday evening for groping a teenage girl the previous day, police said.

Police said they arrested Andre English, 27, at about 6:50 p.m. after he was identified by a 13-year-old girl who told that she was touched inappropriately while walking near on Monday.

She said that English tried to start a conversation with her and then touched her outside of her clothing, according to a police report.

The victim walked away and went immediately to a nearby business where she called a relative to pick her up.

Police learned of the incident Tuesday afternoon after the victim told a school official what happened.

Later in the day, the victim was riding with her mother near the Safeway Shopping Center where she spotted her assailant, said Sgt. Javier Diaz.

Police responded to the area and arrested English shortly after, according to Diaz.

English is currently in custody. Investigators are trying to determine if he was involved in a similar incident last week, Diaz said.

On March 17, a 16-year-old girl reported an in the same area while walking along Union Square near the BART station. The girl managed to break free by elbowing the man in his crotch.

The suspect in that case was described as as an African American male, 20 years old, and about 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a skinny build and goatee. English is also African American and was described with a similar build by the victim in the initial police report.
