Armed robbery at Bob’s Discount Liquors

On Thursday night, officers responded to Bob’s Discount Liquors on Alvarado Boulevard to investigate a just-occurred armed robbery. According to the report, officers learned that an individual entered the store and pretended to buy a soda. When the clerk rang up the sale, the suspect pointed a handgun and demanded all the money from the cash register. The suspect took the money and the soda and fled in a waiting vehicle.

Woman arrested after trying to pass a forged check

Officers were sent to the Union Landing Chase to investigate an in-progress forgery. According to the report, an arriving officer saw a woman who matched the suspect description leaving the bank nervously. The officer detained the woman and, through his investigation, learned that she had attempted to pass a forged check in someone else’s identity. She was arrested on suspicion of forgery and taken to jail.

$700 worth of scrap metal stolen

Also on Friday, officers investigated a report of stolen materials from a local business. Suspects pried open the back portion of a corrugated wall at a metals manufacturing company on Whipple Road and stole 30 to 40 pounds of scrap copper valued at $700. According to police, the crime is one of many ongoing metal thefts in Union City and its surrounding area.

2008 homicide suspect arrested

On Friday night, officers on routine patrol in the area of the 33000 block of Fourth Street spotted a suspect wanted in connection with . The officers detained the suspect and confirmed that he had an active arrest warrant for homicide. He was arrested on suspicion of homicide without incident.  

Hayward car chase ends with two arrested in Union City

Also on Friday night, Union City police assisted Hayward officers in pursuing a stolen vehicle that made its way into Union City in the area of Whipple Road heading toward Union City Boulevard. Arriving officers found that the suspect vehicle had crashed into the signal light at the intersection of Whipple Road and Union City Boulevard. Both suspects fled on foot from the vehicle. Union City and Hayward officers established a perimeter and apprehended the suspects. 

Saturday, Oct. 1

Drunk driver arrested after accident

Early Saturday morning, officers responded to the intersection of Whipple Road and Mission Boulevard to investigate a non-injury traffic accident. Arriving officers found the driver of one of the vehicles to be unlicensed and intoxicated. According to the report, the driver failed sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license.

Landlord attacks tenant after dispute

Later on Saturday, officers responded to a tenant/landlord dispute at a home on Hollyhock Drive that turned into an assault with a deadly weapon case. According to the report, during a heated argument, the landlord lunged at the tenant in a threatening manner and threw a meat tenderizer at her. A relative of the tenant came to her aid and subdued the landlord by tackling him to the ground. The landlord was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and transported to a local hospital for treatment of an injury sustained when he was tackled to the ground.

Sunday, Oct. 2

Man attacks ex-girlfriend, attempts to kidnap her near BART station

Officers responded to the area of 24 Union Square near the BART station to investigate an in-progress fight involving four men and a woman. According to the report, arriving officers learned that a woman was walking to the BART station when she was attacked from behind by her ex-boyfriend. The suspect took the her cell phone and attempted to drag her away. She was able to escape and get help from nearby relatives who were across the street. A scuffle ensued between the suspect and relatives, and the suspect fled. The suspect was later located a short distance away in the area of Union Square and Alvarado-Niles Road and arrested on suspicion of domestic battery, strong arm robbery, and kidnapping.

Woman arrested for drug possession after tailgating a car

Later on Sunday night, an officer on routine patrol in the area of Whipple Road near Sixth Street noticed a car tailgating another. The officer stopped the driver for the violation and contacted the driver, who was on parole. According to the report, the officer conducted a search and found the driver had 3.4 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a stun gun in her possession. She was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia and taken to jail.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

Urn stolen from crypt at cemetery

On Wednesday, an unknown suspect used a hammer to break into a crypt at the Chapel of the Chimes cemetery on Mission Boulevard. The suspect removed an urn from the crypt and fled. Investigators are contacting other police agencies to determine if this was an isolated incident or part of a larger crime trend.

Woman rams police vehicle with stolen car

On Wednesday evening, two officers acting on a tip from a resident located a stolen vehicle being driven by a female suspect.  According to the report, officers followed the driver into the Tropics Mobile Home Park where she made a U-turn and rammed a pursuing police car head-on.  One officer received a minor injury as a result of the patrol car’s airbag.  The woman was eventually detained and arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon of an officer, possession of a stolen vehicle and transporting narcotics.  The officer was treated at a local hospital and released.
