Friday, Sept. 9

Man hits wife with beer bottle, wife stabs him in the chest

On Friday night, officers responded to a Deborah Drive home to investigate a domestic assault after a woman told police dispatchers that she had just stabbed her husband, according to the report. Arriving officers secured the home and ordered everyone out at gunpoint. Officers learned that the husband and wife were having ongoing domestic disputes that escalated Friday night when the husband struck his wife with a beer bottle and an ashtray. The wife then retrieved a knife and, in turn, stabbed him in the chest, the report said. The husband and wife were taken to local hospitals for treatment and arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Woman robbed at gunpoint on Almaden Boulevard

Also on Friday night, officers responded to an apartment on Almaden Boulevard to investigate an armed robbery. The victim told officers that she had parked her car and was walking to her apartment when a man approached her, pointed a handgun at her and demanded her belongings. She complied and the suspect fled on foot. The suspect is described as a Pacific Islander in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds.

Saturday, Sept. 10

Armed robbery on Mann Avenue

On Saturday night, officers responded to ab armed robbery that had just occurred on Mann Avenue near Starling Drive. The victim was walking home when a man armed with a handgun approached him and demanded his property. The victim gave up his belongings and the suspect fled on foot between the homes in the area.  According to the report, the suspect is described as a Hispanic male between 20 and 25 years old.

Sunday, Sept. 11

Fight leaves victim with head injury

Officers responded to the 500 block of Eighth Street to investigate a report of a fight in progress in which a person was seen with a handgun. Officers found a group of uncooperative people, all of whom denied that a fight had occurred, the report said. A victim eventually emerged from a nearby home with a large gash to his head. The victim was also uncooperative with officers, according to police. Alameda County Fire and AMR paramedics arrived and provided first aid to the victim, recommending he be taken to the hospital for additional treatment, but the victim refused to go, the report said.

Monday, Sept. 12

Parolee arrested after being spotted with stolen car

A COPPS officer patrolling near Third and D streets in an unmarked vehicle spotted a parolee driving a vehicle. The parolee appeared surprised to see the officer, so the officer checked the license plate. When the officer made a U-turn, the man quickly drove around the block, parked and abandoned the vehicle in a vacant home’s driveway, the report said. By this time, the officer learned that the car had been stolen in Berkeley. The officer parked and approached the vehicle on foot while additional officers responded to the area. The parolee popped out of a nearby home and looked around. The officer announced his presence and detained the suspect until he could sort out if the car was actually stolen. The suspect was eventually arrested on suspicion of auto theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tuesday, Sept. 13

Man points gun at roommate for not returning romantic advances

Officers were sent to a home on Union City Boulevard near Rose Way to investigate a disturbance between roommates in which one of them allegedly pointed a loaded gun at the other. Arriving officers met with the victim and a witness in front of the residence. According to the report, the victim claimed that his roommate was upset with him because he had a domestic partner and was not returning the suspect’s romantic advances, in addition to not paying rent.

After a brief argument at the rear door, the roommate pointed a loaded handgun at the victim and threatened to shoot him if he entered the home, the report said. The roommate is a security guard and was wearing a police-style belt with extra ammunition and a handgun. The victim and witness retreated and called 9-1-1.

As officers arrived and spoke with the victim and witness, the suspect came out of the home. The suspect, still wearing his holstered handgun, initially refused to follow officers’ orders while talking on his cell phone. He eventually complied with officers’ orders and was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a firearm.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

12-year-old questioned in gas station robbery

On Wednesday, investigators arrested a 12-year-old at his home on suspicion of armed robbery. The boy was identified as participating in an Aug. 26 armed robbery at the Shell gas station on the corner of Mission Boulevard and Whipple Road, police said.

Ed.’s note: Union City Patch followed up on the arrest Thursday afternoon. According to Sgt. Tom Gorrie, the juvenile suspect was questioned and released Wednesday evening. Further details could not be released as police are actively investigating this case.
