UNION CITY, CA — Many people laid off by the service industry during the pandemic decided to change careers to prevent the same thing from happening again in the future. If you are looking for a new job in Union City or elsewhere in Alameda County, the U.S. Postal Service has about 1,000 jobs to fill in Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties.

The USPS will hold a job fair on Saturday that's aimed at hiring candidates as quickly as possible. Computers will be provided and you'll receive help to guide you through the application process. You can also get answers to questions such as pay and benefits provided for you and your family.

There are job openings in all positions, including:

• Mail Processing: Clerks and Mail Handlers
• Delivery: City and Rural Carriers
• Transportation: Tractor Trailer Operators
• Maintenance: Mechanics, Laborer Custodian and Automotive Technician
