Postal Workers' 'Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive': Saturday In Union City

To support the effort, put non-perishable food items in a bag next to your mailbox before May 14 delivery. Donations go to local food banks.

UNION CITY, CA — The National Association of Letter Carriers is holding its annual, one-day food drive Saturday, May 14 in Union City and communities nationwide.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive participants can leave their donations of non-perishable food in bags next to their mailbox before their Saturday mail delivery. Letter carriers will collect the goods while on their postal routes.

The items will stay in the community with distribution to local food banks, pantries, shelters and churches, organizers said.

Among suggested donations are canned soup, canned vegetables, canned meats and fish, plus pasta, rice and cereal.

"Letter carriers are a part of every neighborhood in the nation, and we see the growing need for food assistance in our communities," NALC President Fredric Rolando said.

"On Saturday, May 14, NALC invites everyone to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.," he said. "Together, we can help stamp out hunger in America."

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, first held in 1993, has helped feed millions of Americans over the years and is the country's largest, one-day food drive, officials said.
