Robbery, Domestic Disputes and a "Shooting" Among Crimes Reported to Police

Friday, Feb. 25
A drunk driver crashed into a light pole on Lowry Road and Brockway Street. The driver tried to walk away from the scene but arriving officers found the suspect a short distance away. Through the investigation, officers determined that the suspect was driving while under the influence of alcohol and arrested.

Later that night, a patrol officer saw a car being driven erratically on Central Avenue. The officer stopped the vehicle and discovered the driver was under the influence of alcohol and arrested.

An officer caught two suspects engaged in a not-so-sweet drug deal near Alvarado Boulevard and Dyer Street. The suspects appeared suspicious as they walked into the alley behind the nearby Quick Stop. The officer responded to the area and as he turned the corner, he witnessed the tail end of a hand-to-hand exchange. He detained both suspects and through his investigation learned that one suspect had 36 grams of individually packaged marijuana for sale and marijuana-laced brownies. Both suspects were arrested, as the buying suspect had a concealed and dangerous weapon in his possession.
Also in the day, a man was arrested following a domestic disturbance at a home on Ithica Street. Officers responded to the home where, upon arrival, found the victim crying and upset. Through the investigation, officers learned that the victim and her husband were arguing about finances. During the argument, the suspect pushed the victim against the stove, choked her with his forearm and threw her to the ground before leaving the home. As officers were speaking with the victim, the suspect returned to the residence and was arrested without incident.
Another domestic dispute was reported in the evening, this time at a residence on Polaris Avenue. Officers responded to the home and found the victim with an injury to her head after being hit with a metal flashlight. The victim told officers that her boyfriend came home and started arguing with her. He struck her on the head with a metal flashlight before fleeing. The suspect was later located and arrested on Monday, Feb. 28 by Community Policing and Problems Solving Unit officers.
Monday, Feb. 28
An armed robbery occurred near San Andreas Drive and Santa Rita Way on Monday night. The victim was walking on San Andreas Drive while talking on his cell phone when he heard someone coming up from behind. When he turned around, he had a handgun pointed at his head. The suspect demanded the victim’s cell phone and backpack then fled to an awaiting vehicle.
Wednesday, March 2
A man is believed to have shot himself in his lower body on Wednesday. UCPD was notified by Hayward PD that a gunshot victim was transported to a Hayward hospital. The victim claimed he was robbed and shot at Kennedy Park. Investigators responded to the park to look for additional victims, suspects and evident but none were located. Through their investigation, officers determined that the suspect likely injured himself when his gun accidentally went off.
