This Week: Free Zumba Class, Grandparents and Grandkids Pumpkin Festival, Make A Difference Day
Here's what's going down in and around Union City this week

Here are five events coming up this week that you should know about:
- The City of Union City is holding the second in a series of economic development study sessions to examine Union City's potential for growth. At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, city staff and officials will meet with developers, local business representatives and business experts to discuss the greater Station District area, which includes more than 200 acres of land within a half-mile of the BART station. Staff will ask panelists questions designed to help the city become more attractive to businesses. View and download the meeting agenda here.
- is inviting the community to with their new instructor, Neo Garcia, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The studio, which has served Union City for more than 30 years, promises the class "will feel like a party."
- Chabot College celebrates 50 years with a daylong celebration on Saturday, Oct. 22. Starting at 9 a.m., the will feature a full day of activities for not only students, staff and alumni, but the entire community. Activities include a fun run, BBQ, dancing, alumni softball game and more. The festival will culminate with a homecoming football match against the Merced College Blue Devils. Admission is $5, parking is $2. .
- Continuing its series of community events, Acacia Creek is hosting its on Saturday, Oct. 22. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., enjoy pony rides, face painting, a harvest grill, a photo op with Mr. Pumpkin and more. Every child will receive a free pumpkin!
- Want to get active and help your city become a better, cleaner and greener community? Join the City of Union City on Saturday, Oct. 22 for Make a Difference Day -- "a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors." Volunteers will meet at different sites around the city for various projects, including a clean water environmental project at William Cann Civic Center Park, landscape improvements at Liberty Park and garden care at Dry Creek Gardens.
