This Week: Veterans Day, Standup Comedy, Band Showcase

Here's what's going down in and around Union City this week

Here are five events coming up this week that you should know about:

  • The . The Union City meeting will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at the Kennedy Community Center to talk about the Dumbarton Rail Corridor, which will extend commuter rail service between the Peninsula and the East Bay. The rail corridor will link Caltrain, the Altamont Express, Amtrak's Capital Corridor rail system and BART at a intermodal station in Union City.
  • Unless you've been living in a cave, you know the "Occupy" movement has spread throughout the nation, with all eyes on Oakland last week. On Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m., is holding a peaceful community discussion on the topic: "What does the Occupy movement mean to you?" All community members are invited to share their stories and participate in the discussion.
  • Honor those who've served our country during two local Veterans Day services this Friday. featuring veterans and other special guests. Later in the evening, .
  • Also on Friday night, . Hosted by Molly Sokhom, the event features comedians Lydia Popovich, Big Al Gonzalez, Imran G., Clara Bijl, Patrick McDermott, Matt Curry and headliner Kaseem Bentley. The laughter starts at 8:30 p.m.
  • Twenty-five marching bands are scheduled to compete at James Logan High School for the on Saturday, Nov. 12, starting at 2:30 p.m. Bands from as far as Reno are traveling to compete at our local high school, which holds 13 Western Band Association Championship titles. Come support our winning team. General admission is $15; $12 for students; and free for children 5 and under.
