One Armed Robbery, Two Attempts Monday Night

Police say the crimes are not likely to be related.

Within a 30-minute span, there were three armed and attempted robberies spread throughout Union City Monday night, police said.

According to Lt. Ben Horner, the first incident, an attempted robbery, took place at about 9:40 p.m. on the 4200 block of Solar Circle in the Contempo Homes community.

A woman was walking to her parked car when she was approached by three men, one of whom pointed a handgun at her and asked her to get out of her vehicle, Horner said. The woman quickly locked her car doors and called police and the suspects fled on foot.

About 20 minutes later on the opposite end of the city, a man was walking near Skylark Drive and Partridge Way where he was confronted by two men. One of the men pulled out a handgun and asked, “What you got?,” Horner said.

The victim ran home and called police. By the time police received the call and responded to the area, the suspects had left the area, Horner said.

Shortly after, at about 10 p.m., two people were robbed near Galano Plaza in the quiet Seven Hills area.

Four men approached a male victim and his mother. One of the men pulled out a handgun while another punched one of the victims and stole a cellphone before running away, according to Horner.

Police later detained and released suspects who matched the description but were not positively identified by the victims, Horner said.

Horner said the crimes did not appear to be related.

“The timing is coincidental because the suspect descriptions are somewhat different,” Horner said. “Regardless, having three armed robbery attempts in different areas is unusual.”
