Niles Pie Company Makes Best Pie List

UNION CITY, CA — Some holidays would not be the same without pie — strawberry or raspberry pie on Mother's Day, pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, or blueberry pie on the 4th of July.

But any time is the right time for pie, especially when fresh berries and fruit are in season. The Bay Area News Group recently put out a list of 12 restaurants to try around the Bay Area including Niles Pie Company in Union City.

"Whoever thought that a nondescript office park in an industrial section of Union City, could become a destination," the BANG wrote. "It should be, if you want to taste some pretty fantastic fruit, cream or chocolate pies. The Niles Pie Company is a 13-year-old worker-owned cooperative that’s developed enough of a following among fans that it sells its own branded T-shirts and coffee mugs and offers subscriptions, so you can ensure your own personal, regular supply of sweet or savory pies."

The long list of current sweet pies available includes Strawberry Chocolate Cream, Raspberry Rhubarb, and Dutch Apple Crumb. Savory selections include Beef Stew Pot Pie, Moroccan Vegetable Pie and Vegetarian Quiche. You can also order nine soups or stocks, cinnamon buns and other pastries. See the full menu.

Niles Pie is at 2990 Alvarado-Niles Road, Suite 960 in Union City. Scheduled hours are 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
