Sunday, Oct. 16

A 30-year-old Hayward at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Police launched an intense investigation in search of the alleged shooter, Phi Pham, a 20-year-old gang member from West Hayward. Pham was eventually arrested at 2 p.m. Sunday near his home off of Hesperian Boulevard. The victim, who was shot in the chest, suffered life-threatening injuries but is expected to survive, police said.

's Centerville district early Monday morning. According to police, the incident occurred at about 1:55 a.m. in front of a Quik Stop. Both men underwent emergency surgery and were in stable condition Monday afternoon, police said.

Tuesday, Oct. 18

The attempted murder trial began for Andrew Barrientos, the 20-year-old alleged Decoto gang member accused of shooting an undercover Fremont police officer last August. According to media reports, during the opening remarks at Monday's trial, Barrientos' attorney did not deny that her client shot the officer, but said that he was acting in self-defense. However, deputy district attorney John Brouhard said Barrientos was not acting out of fear and that he fired 10 shots toward the undercover officers. .

Wednesday, Oct. 19

Thursday, Oct. 20

After failing to pass in May, the New Haven Unified School District is planning for another parcel tax to support local schools. On Tuesday night, an ad hoc committee gave a presentation on their latest efforts, dubbed "Winning for Our Students," with the board of education agreeing to poll the community to see what initiatives the community would support and how much residents would be willing to pay. The story has sparked outrage among some residents. .

A short string of Thursday. At 2:41 p.m., a 4.0 magnitude quake hit just east of Berkeley, sending ripples all the way to Union City and the San Ramon Valley. Another quake, with a 2.2. magnitude, struck at about 4:50 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 21

The Colts stomped Irvington High School during it's homecoming game for a triumphant 64-0 victory. They dishing out 386 yards on offense and six touchdowns on only 23 offensive plays. The win continues the football team's 7-0 hot streak so far this season. .
