VENICE, CA — A man who alleges he was stabbed in 2018 by Redmond O'Neal can proceed with his civil suit against the son of actor Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett, a judge ruled.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Audra Mori on Monday lifted a stay that had been in place on plaintiff Seth Cooper Folkerson's lawsuit since April 2020.

Folkerson, also known as Anton Troy, filed the lawsuit in June 2018, alleging assault and battery and negligence.

In September 2019, a judge found O'Neal, now 36, incompetent to stand trial in the criminal case, but his attorney, Rodney T. Lewin, told Mori that a hearing on his client's competency is forthcoming.

Folkerson, then 34, was walking near Rose Avenue and Fourth Street in Venice on May 4, 2018, when O'Neal allegedly stabbed him, the suit states.

"In drawing his knife ... O'Neal intended to cause or to place plaintiff in apprehension of physical bodily harm and to fear for his life," the suit states.

Folkerson was employed at the time of the attack, but now cannot work due to his injuries, the suit states.
