Letter: Casden Downsizing A Victory For Neighborhood Councils

The real estate developer has agreed to reduce the size of its mixed-use development project on the Westside from 160,000 to 15,000 square feet.

As you can see from the recent Los Angeles Times article, [Casden’s decision to reduce its West LA commercial/residential project from 160,000 to 15,000 square feet] is a perfect example of a project that the City of Los Angele's City Planning Committee rubber stamped because the soon to become Venice resident – Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa - wanted to see it approved.

Despite the outcry from neighbors that would be affected by the density and the traffic gridlock on a project of this size, local city officials were willing to make a deal with the developer, but the neighbors stood their ground, rallied support and did not back down.
