Walnut Creek Recruiting Residents For Police Chief Advisory Board

Walnut Creek Police Chief Jamie Knox is hoping for a broad representation of viewpoints on public safety from those who apply.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — If you are at least 18 years old, live in Walnut Creek, can attend monthly meetings at City Hall, and have a desire to serve your community in a new way, then you meet the requirements to apply for a seat on the Walnut Creek Police Chief's Community Advisory Board.

Established in 2020, the board serves as a resource for the police chief in the formation of strategies, developing community policing concepts, increasing public awareness, furthering engagement and transparency efforts, and identifying best practices.

The board has served as a sounding board and feedback loop for the chief of police. Members have influenced policies and procedures, and give the chief a valuable community perspective.

"The Chief’s Advisory Board helps me recognize blind spots we might not see within the Department and offers me a valuable outside perspective," Walnut Creek police Chief Jamie Knox said.

Advisory board members are seated in rotating two-year terms to bring fresh perspectives and more opportunities for other residents to serve.

Knox is hoping for a broad representation of viewpoints on public safety from those who apply, adding important voices to the current board.

Applications are due by Dec. 31 and are available on the city’s website at https://www.walnutcreekca.gov/ or online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PLPFNZX.

Interviews for candidates will be conducted after the first of the year.
