BAY AREA, CA — The National Weather Service is warning of chances of thunderstorms in the Bay Area on Wednesday and even the possibility of a coastal tornado.

Residents along the California Coast and some inland areas should prepare for severe weather Wednesday, with the small risk of weak tornadoes and waterspouts, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center.

The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning along the Pacific coastlines because of wind gusts of up to 65 mph expected until 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The weather service has issued a Flood Watch for the region that has been extended through 10 p.m.

Friday and is warning of extremely dangerous marine conditions as well through Friday morning.

The weather was relatively quiet around the Bay Area on Tuesday but as of shortly after 3 p.m., Merchant said, "we're already beginning to see winds ramp up along the coast. We're just starting to see the onset of impacts."

After a brief break during the day Wednesday, another system is expected to bring more wet and windy weather late on Christmas Eve and into Christmas Day on Thursday, he said.
