Mandatory Water Use Restrictions In Effect For Walnut Creek
Following a bleak California snow survey and a dry January to March, the East Bay Municipal Utility District has imposed water restrictions.

WALNUT CREEK, CA -- Following a bleak California snow survey and the driest January to March on record, the East Bay Municipal Utility District's Board of Directors has elevated its drought response and has implemented:
- Mandatory 10 percent water use reduction. EBMUD is asking all customers to take necessary actions to meet this District-wide goal.
- Drought water restrictions.
- Limiting outdoor watering to three times per week, between the hours of 9 p.m. - 6 a.m., with no runoff. No irrigation within 48 hours of rainfall.
- Prohibiting washing of sidewalks and driveways.
- Prohibiting irrigation of turf on public street medians.
- Prohibiting irrigation of non-functional turf on non-residential sites as directed by the State.
- Prohibiting non-recirculating decorative fountains.
- Requiring use of hose shut-off nozzle when washing motor vehicles.
- Requiring restaurants to only provide drinking water upon request, and hotels to offer patrons option of not having towels and linens washed daily.
- Drought surcharge of 8% on water flow charge beginning July 1, 2022 for all customers.
- Excessive Use Penalty Ordinance. Single family residential customers who exceed the excessive use threshold of 132 units, about1,646 gallons per day, will receive one warning and then will face fines of $2 for every unit (748 gallons) of water used above the threshold.
