New Mayor Aims To Deliver High-Priority Programs, Services

Outgoing Walnut Creek Mayor Cindy Silva has passed the gavel to the city's new mayor, Loella Haskew.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Walnut Creek Mayor Cindy Silva passed the gavel to Mayor Pro Tem Loella Haskew at the Tuesday, Dec. 5 City Council meeting.

The City Council unanimously approved Haskew’s appointment. She will serve through early December 2024.

Councilmember Cindy Darling will serve as the Mayor Pro Tem.

Prior to Haskew’s selection, outgoing Mayor Cindy Silva reflected on the past year of City operations in 2023.

“This has been a busy and productive year for Walnut Creek,” said Silva. “I appreciated the support and input from the community on issues of importance to our residents.”

Haskew was elected to the City Council in November 2012. She previously served as Mayor in 2016 and 2020.

Haskew stated, “I am looking forward to serving with my fellow Councilmembers to continue our work for the community. We have many high-priority programs and services to deliver.”

Haskew has an extensive background in community service, having been on a wide variety of volunteer Boards and Commissions. She received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Golden Gate University and her Masters in Taxation from Golden Gate in 1986.
