WALNUT CREEK, CA — Walnut Creek is moving ahead with a $77 million plan to build a new Aquatic and Community Center at Heather Farm Park.

As DanvilleSanRamon.com reports, the council voted unanimously to approve moving the project into its design and development phase.

According to Walnut Creek Arts & Rec, the voter-approved Measure O half-cent sales tax will pay for the overhaul, demolishing the existing community center for a new combined facility. The reenvisioned site will encompass 4.7 acres, with a large indoor gathering space, multi-purpose rooms, classrooms, outdoor event terraces, a 50-meter lap pool, a recreational pool and a bathhouse. The new building will cover between 25,000 and 27,000 square feet.
