Appleton Grill Plans Opening

Work continues on the Appleton Grill, a much-anticipated addition to the Watsonville restaurant scene.

The anticipated opening of the restaurant is late-April or early May, according to Gale Geurin, office manager for Abe Novin, who owns Novin Investment Properties and the Appleton Grill.

Novin opened a naming contest for the restaurant earlier this eyar and received nearly 100 entries. Gabriel Chavarria, a 38-year resident of Watsonville, suggested the winner—Appleton Grill.

The name reflects the history of the building, according to Geurin. There was an Appleton Grill in the original hotel.

This week, crews were working on the new eatery, at the corner of Rodriguez and West Beach streets. No exact opening date has been announced, but Chavarria will be invited to be the first diner at the Appleton Grill when it opens, according to Geurin.
