Watsonville Attempted Homicide: Deputies Make Arrest
Edgar Ayala, 47, was arrested in Watsonville. Deputies say a shooting sent someone to the hospital.

WATSONVILLE, CA — Local authorities arrested a man Wednesday who was wanted in connection with a June shooting on Riverside Road in Watsonville.
Edgar Ayala, 47, was arrested on suspicion of charges including attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office and Watsonville Police Department, according to a statement. He was taken into custody without incident around 1 p.m. Wednesday in the 2700 block of Freedom Boulevard, the sheriff's office said.
Ayala's bail was set at $325,000 and he bailed out of Santa Cruz County Jail by Thursday morning, according to sheriff's office spokesperson Ashley Keehn. Santa Cruz County Superior Court records indicate that Ayala has not been charged in connection with the shooting as of Thursday morning.

The unidentified victim drove themselves to the hospital and was expected to be OK, the sheriff's office said the day after the shooting.
Ayala was almost immediately identified by detectives as a suspect after the June 23 shooting. The sheriff's office had asked the public to be on the lookout for Ayala, who was considered to be "armed and dangerous."
