Boy Arrested For Armed Robbery After Fleeing Toward Watsonville Police Station

BREAKING: The teen is suspected of robbing a 71-year-old Watsonville man.

WATSONVILLE, CA — A 16-year-old armed robbery suspect was taken to juvenile hall after he fled from officers and ran toward a police station Friday in Watsonville, police said Saturday. The robbery occurred at about noon in front of 30 W. Beach St.

A concerned citizen had called police to report the robbery, which was of a 71-year-old Watsonville man, and police broadcasted the information over the police radio. The broadcast relayed that the suspect was seen running toward the library on Main Street.

Police said that they found the suspect in the 200 block of Main Street and he tried to escape police by running through city parking lots and around city buildings. The boy ran toward the Police Department as other officers were leaving to assist in the search, and he was apprehended.

Police said the victim and more than one witness identified the boy as the robbery suspect. The stolen property was returned to the victim and the boy was taken to juvenile hall.
