Fights Shut Down Monterey​ County Fair​ Early

Police called in mutual aid to assist and fair management made the decision to close down the event before 9 p.m.

MONTEREY, CA — The Monterey County Fair in Monterey shut down early Saturday night because of reported fights, according to police.

Security at the fair was alerted that someone may have been shot in the carnival area, police said, but no evidence of a shooting was found.

"Other people reported seeing a male with a gun, but a good description was not provided," said the Monterey Police Department on social media.

There were, however, several fights that broke out. Police called in mutual aid to assist and fair management made the decision to close down the event before 9 p.m.

"The decision was made out of an abundance of caution," said the Monterey County Fair on Instagram. "It is confirmed that no injuries occurred."
