Homeless Man Dies After Punch To Face, Salinas Police Seek Leads

Robert Mooring, 58, died following an assault near East Lake and Soledad streets in Salinas.

SALINAS, CA — Salinas police are appealing to the public for information about an assault that ended the life of a homeless man, police said Wednesday.

Robert Mooring, 58, died Nov. 6 following an assault that took place Oct. 29 near East Lake and Soledad streets. Police said Mooring was punched in the face but did not seek medical attention immediately afterward.

A social worker on Nov. 1 convinced Mooring to go to the hospital and he was taken to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital the same day. His condition got worse and an infection and complications led to his death.
