Hours-Long Standoff Underway In Watsonville; 1 Injured

A man with a hammer is reportedly in a standoff with police.

WATSONVILLE, CA -- An hours-long standoff was underway Tuesday involving a man with a hammer whose mother was injured. The standoff began around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening in the area of Maranatha and Green Valley, according to Watsonville Police Department.

KSBW8 reported the standoff was prompted by a family dispute that may have involved children. The children were seen outside Monday evening when police arrived, the news station said.

The news station said officers are attempting to get the man, who appears to be in his 30s, to surrender peacefully.

Police asked the public to avoid the area until the incident is cleared.
