Inmate Found Dead In Santa Cruz County Jail Facility
Carlos Bolanos, 35, was found unresponsive at the facility and life-saving efforts were unsuccessful, according to officials.
WATSONVILLE, CA — An inmate at the Rountree Rehabilitation and Re-Entry Facility near Watsonville was found dead early Monday morning, according to sheriff's officials. Carlos Bolanos, 35, had been in custody since October 2018 and was assigned to the facility in December of the same year. He was found unresponsive at about 5:30 a.m. in the facility next to Rountree Medium Facility at 90 Rountree Lane, according to deputies, and correctional officers and medical staff, who began rendering aid.
Paramedics and fire officials arrived but their lifesaving efforts were also unsuccessful. Deputies said there doesn't appear to be any evidence of foul play, and county mental health services are providing grief support for other inmates and correctional officers at the facility. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday at the Santa Cruz County coroner's office, at which point officials will determine Bolanos' cause and manner of death. No further information was available.
