Japanese Energy Drink Company Filming Commercial at Beer Can Beach

The scene Thursday drew onlookers, which caused the director to order beachgoers out of the VIP area.

Here were the signs and sights spotted by passersby Thursday.

A Japanese energy drink company was filming a commercial at Beer Can Beach.

The crew chose the Santa Cruz County coastline for the shoot because of the beautiful weather.

Those rocks you see in the background are fake. At one point, people were trying to push and pull the fake rocks out of the water. It wasn't clear if that was part of the shtick or if they were worried about rising tides, which peaked at 3.6 feet around 2 p.m.

The director also had to order beachgoers out of the "VIP" area.

No word on which energy drink was being featured, or if it's for sale locally.

Beer Can Beach is south of Rio del Mar and north of Seascape. It's a favorite of dog owners.
