PVUSD trustees slash 80 teacher positions in revote (pajaronian.com) — Pajaro Valley Unified trustees have voted again to cut about 80 teaching and support positions, a move that will hit arts, counseling, and reading intervention programs serving Watsonville-area students. After a controversial earlier meeting that cleared Watsonville City Council Chambers, dozens of parents, students, and teachers pleaded with the board, warning of larger classes, fewer services, and long-term harm to kids.

2. SJPD veteran tapped as Watsonville's next top cop (mercurynews.com) — Watsonville has selected San Jose police veteran Brian Shab to become the city’s next police chief early next year, bringing decades of law enforcement and military experience. Shab, a Santa Cruz County resident, says he’s committed to accountability, compassion, and strengthening community trust with Watsonville’s diverse, hard‑working families.
   

3. Flock Safety Cameras Assist Watsonville Police in Recovery of Stolen Vehicle and Firearm (crimevoice.com) — Watsonville police used Flock Safety license-plate cameras to locate a stolen car in the city Tuesday night, arresting a 16-year-old driver and seizing a loaded, unserialized firearm. Officers found the vehicle near Hushbeck Avenue and East Beach Street, and the teen was booked into Santa Cruz County Juvenile Detention on stolen vehicle, firearm, and probation violation charges.
   

4. Watsonville's Sandor Rodriguez, 27, grateful for chance to finish what he started (santacruzsentinel.com) — Watsonville native and St. Francis High grad Sandor Rodriguez is back in college basketball, now a backup point guard at Bellevue University after years coaching and teaching in Watsonville schools and at the local YMCA. His journey from leaving Linfield University to mentoring local kids, then seizing a second chance to play, highlights how deeply he remains connected to his hometown community.
