Pregnant Woman, Baby Killed In Stabbing Attack: Salinas
The stabbing death of Mariana Jurado, 26, appears to be a random act of violence.
SALINAS, CA — A pregnant woman and her unborn child died in a stabbing Tuesday morning in Salinas, police said.
Officers at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday investigated the stabbing at Clay and Cayuga streets, near Salinas High School.
Mariana Jurado, 26, was leaving her home on her way to work when 43-year-old Garrett Scheff allegedly stabbed her.

Police said neither knew each other so the stabbing appears to be a random act of violence. Jurado died at a hospital.
About a block from Jurado's home, Scheff was found and arrested.

Scheff was booked into the county jail on suspicion of homicide.
