Sheriff's Office IDs Gilroy Woman Killed In Watsonville Crash
The CHP said driver of the pickup, a 65-year-old man from Watsonville, suffered moderate injuries, including lacerations.

WATSONVILLE, CA — A 40-year-old Gilroy woman who died in a multiple-vehicle traffic collision on Wednesday on state Highway 129 east of Watsonville has been identified by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office. Odilia Chavez-Ortega, 40, of Gilroy was killed in the collision, according to Santa Cruz County sheriff's Sgt. Chris Clark.
The collision occurred on the highway west of Rogge Lane around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP said she was driving west on the highway when she lost control of the Nissan Maxima, hit the outside guardrail of the right-hand shoulder, crossed over the double-yellow lines and was broad-sided by a 2003 Dodge pickup truck.
The CHP said driver of the pickup, a 65-year-old man from Watsonville, suffered moderate injuries, including lacerations to his face and body. CHP officials said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the collision.
