Aptos High Lockdown Lifted After On-Campus Stabbing; 2 Detained

Law enforcement began facilitating the release of students Tuesday evening.

APTOS, CA — Two people have been taken into custody after an Aptos High School student was stabbed on campus around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said.

Law enforcement officers began releasing students from the campus Tuesday evening after it was placed on lockdown, according to the California Highway Patrol. Parents staged at the sheriff's office service center next to the Cabrillo College softball field as they waited for students to be released.

People were temporarily asked to avoid the area as officials searched for a possible suspect and Freedom Boulevard at Mariner Way was closed.

Deputies believe the attack was an isolated incident and are investigating to determine whether the two people in custody were involved, the sheriff's office said Tuesday afternoon.
