Teen Sets Good Example: Watsonville Star Student Athlete

WATSONVILLE, CA — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Ivana is an amazing teammate and always demonstrates good sportsmanship. As it pertains to teammates she always tries to lead by example and is willing to help whenever someone wants to learn a new skill. She is known and knows many of the girls on other teams throughout the county and even when she plays against them she makes sure to always say hello and make it a competitive yet friendly environment. At the same time she has maintained a 3.7 or higher GPA while competing at the highest level. All her team sports are travel club sports and is a starter in important roles for each sport (i.e. pitcher, point guard, libero, forward in soccer).

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

Ivana is always happy and tries to make everyone around her happy. Even when things may not go her way, she never lets it carry over onto the field.

Specially during game times, she tries to carry good vibes and does so by example. One situation, is her pitching. No matter how the game is going, she will stay as calm as possible so her teammates also stay cool, calm and collected even if the team goes down in score.
