Watsonville Union Workers To Rally For Better Pay, Benefits

BREAKING: Workers are represented by SEIU Local 521, which is holding the rally.

WATSONVILLE, CA — Union city workers in Watsonville will rally Monday afternoon for better wages as they continue contract negotiations with the city's management, union officials said today. The rally will start at noon at Watsonville City Plaza at 358 Main St. Workers at the rally will demand that city officials reestablish good pay and affordable benefits for every worker.

Workers pay 12 percent of their salaries toward healthcare while city managers pay 5 percent, according to the union. City officials have spent lots of money on the city's logo, website, offices and cars while they refuse to offer workers a reasonable cost-of-living increase, according to the union.

Workers are represented by SEIU Local 521, which is holding the rally. Watsonville's operating engineers with Local 3 will join in. Operating engineers with Local 3 are also in negotiations with city managers.
