Fire Near UCLA Sends Two to Hospital

Two elderly individuals were taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The building did not have functioning smoke alarms.

A fire damaged a house near UCLA Friday, and two people were taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Firefighters sent to the 500 block of South Warner Avenue in Westwood at 10:10 a.m. extinguished the flames in about 20 minutes, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Paramedics took a 90-year-old man and an 85-year-old woman to a hospital in fair condition, the LAFD said.

The house did not have functioning smoke alarms, according to the fire department. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
