Woodland Hills' Taft High is Safe

News reports of a shooting at Taft Union High refer to a school in the city of Taft.

Reports of a school shooting at a high school near Bakersfield have had some Woodland Hills parents concerned. The name of the school with the shooting is similar to a Woodland Hills high school, but the Taft High School in Woodland Hills is safe.

The Thursday morning shooting occurred at Taft Union High School in the city of Taft in Kern County and left two people injured, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times, which also said the suspected shooter was believed to be in custody. Students have been evacuated from the school.

The similarity in names "has caused some confusion, understandably, for our community, given the similar name," a statement by the Los Angeles Police Department's Topanga Station said, when it confirmed there has been no threat to Woodland Hills' William Howard Taft High School.
