Arvada Firefighters Union Donates 100 Coats To Schoolchildren

Kids at Lawrence Elementary and Peak Expeditionary School got warm new Carhart winter coats from firefighters.

ARVADA, CO – Members of Arvada's firefighter union brought some warmth to local schoolchildren Oct. 15 with a donation of 100 winter coats for kids at Lawrence Elementary and Peak Expeditionary School.

Arvada Army Navy Surplus helped provide brand new Carhart winter coats for students, the Arvada Press reported.

"[W]e wanted to come up with an idea to give back to not only firemen throughout the state of Colorado, but also to our community that we serve and protect,” Ryan Weir, president of Arvada Professional Firefighters Association Local 4056 told Arvada Press.

Lawrence students got to take home the coats, but the Peak school will hold onto the coats to distribute as needed throughout the year, the Press reported.

“For the students, it's the hierarchy of needs and having that comfort and being able to stay warm and be healthy and be comfortable on the way to and from school and at recess,” said Chris Benisch, principal Lawrence Elementary told the Arvada Press. “For the parents, I think it's that extra financial support.”
