• Visions of Sugar Beets (goldentoday.com) — A century ago, Jefferson County leaders hoped booming sugar beet production would land a refinery in Arvada, supported by new beet dump sites along tramway lines. The plan faltered when sugar prices crashed in 1920, reshaping local farming and leaving Arvada without the anticipated factory, but the beet industry remained an important chapter in Colorado’s agricultural history.
