Arvada Last-Minute Voter Guide: Candidates, How To Vote

ARVADA, CO — Arvada voters will decide Tuesday the fate of six candidates who are running for City Council.

Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Colorado doesn't have a registration deadline, so voters can both register and vote on Election Day. If you are voting in person, you must be in the line before 7 p.m., officials said.

It's too late to return your ballot by mail, but ballot drop boxes and in-person vote centers are open in both Jefferson and Adams counties.

Voter Registration

If you’ve changed your name or moved since the last time you received a mail ballot, you need to update your voter registration as soon as possible.

Coloradans who will turn 18 on or before Tuesday can pre-register to vote in the election here. They will need a valid driver’s license or Colorado State ID number to register online.

Colorado has same-day voter registration, so even if you put it off until the last minute, you can go to a voter service and polling center with your ID, register, and cast a ballot on Election Day.

If this ballot question passes, City Council candidates will be allowed to work outside Arvada.

Shall Chapter IV, Section 4.3, “Qualifications,” of the Arvada City Charter concerning qualifications to be a candidate for City Council, be amended by deleting language that prohibits an employee from another municipality from holding public office in Arvada?

QUESTION NO. 2 - AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER FOR THE CITY OF ARVADA

This question, if passed, would allow City Council 15 extra days to fill a council vacancy.

Shall Chapter IV, Section 4.6, “Vacancies,” of the Arvada City Charter concerning procedures for filling vacancies on City Council, be amended by increasing the number of days to fill a City Council vacancy from 30 days to 45 days?

QUESTION NO. 3 - AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER FOR THE CITY OF ARVADA

If this passes, those who submit initiative petitions would gain an extra 30 days to gather signatures.

Shall Chapter V, Section 5.13, “Initiative Procedures,” of the Arvada City Charter concerning procedures for submitting initiative petitions, be amended by increasing the amount of time permitted to gather signatures on an initiative petition from 30 days to 60 days?

QUESTION NO. 4 - AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER FOR THE CITY OF ARVADA

This question asks voters if (like the above initiative petitions) those gathering referendum petitions should have an extra 30 days to collect signatures.

Shall Chapter V, Section 5.14, “Referendum Procedures,” of the Arvada City Charter concerning procedures for submitting referendum petitions, be amended by increasing the amount of time permitted to gather signatures on a referendum petition from 30 days to 60 days?
