Arvada Teen Raises Birthday Funds For Rescue Dogs

Mathea Franklin is celebrating her 16th birthday by raising funds for animals in need.

ARVADA, CO — An Arvada teenager doesn't want presents for her 16th birthday — instead she wants to raise funds for a local animal rescue organization.

Mathea Franklin is raising money for the animal welfare nonprofit RezDawg Rescue, which saves stray, feral and abandoned pets who are struggling to survive on Native Reservations in the Four Corners Region. The rescued animals are then vaccinated, spayed/neutered, treated for any medical issues and placed into a foster home.

Franklin's dog, Dale, came from the organization, she said.

"I foster with this amazing rescue and have first hand experienced the joy and heroism this rescue creates," Franklin posted on her GoFundMe page.

"This money goes to saving dogs from the 4 corners, some of those who are injured (just like Dale) and others who may not have a chance at life otherwise!"

As RezDawgs has become better known on reservations, many are taking newborn puppies and kittens — that in some cases would've been left for dead — directly to volunteers at the organization's local clinics.

"If you can and choose to donate I would be eternally thankful for your generosity in helping save the animals," Franklin said.
