Chemical Gas Attack On Arvada Officer Investigated: Police

Police are searching for someone who threw a chemical gas device at an officer who was removing debris from the street.

ARVADA, CO – Arvada police are searching for someone who reportedly threw a chemical gas device an officer early Saturday morning.

Around 12:20 a.m., an officer was clearing debris from the road near West 68th Avenue and Beech Street when a man "threw a chemical device in close proximity" to the officer, which created a gas which injured the officer and the passerby, police said in a statement.

The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment and released. The citizen was treated on the scene for minor injuries and released, police said.

The incident took place near Ralston Valley Park and "after curfew hours," a statement from police said.

“I want everyone to know Arvada Police will use every resource available to track down and hold accountable those responsible,” a statement from Link Strate, Arvada police chief said. "The Arvada Police Department takes any assault against our officers and our community seriously. Our investigation will not stop until these individuals are taken into custody."
