How Colorado Voters Are Fixing Ballot Mistakes So Votes Count

Coloradans are ensuring their votes count by using new technology, first launched in 2020, to fix mistakes on their ballots.

COLORADO — Some Colorado voters are being notified by their county clerks of signature discrepancies, which can be fixed until midnight Nov. 10, elections officials said.

Colorado is using TXT2Cure technology, first launched by Secretary of State Jena Griswold in 2020, which allows voters to fix their ballot issues using their phones to ensure their vote is counted.

During last year’s election, 11,085 ballots that otherwise may not have been counted, were cured or fixed using the technology, Griswold's office said.

“Based on the incredible success of the program, I’m glad that Colorado voters statewide will again have the ability at their fingertips to correct ballot signature discrepancies this November," Griswold said in a statement.

"This innovative program helps ensure that every vote counts in our elections.”

If your county clerk's office notifies you of a signature discrepancy, here's how to use TXT2Cure:

  1. Text "Colorado" to 2VOTE (28638) and click on the link you receive as a reply;
  2. Enter your voter ID number printed on the rejection notice you received from your county election office;
  3. Affirm you returned a ballot for the election;
  4. Sign the affidavit on your phone;
  5. Take a photo of an acceptable form of ID;
  6. Select 'Submit.'

Your voting information is then electronically transmitted to your county clerk, for processing during business hours.

If you complete the TXT2Cure process before midnight Nov. 10, your vote will be counted, officials said.
