ARVADA, CO – Local officials cut the toilet-paper ribbon for Olde Town Arvada's first public restroom Tuesday. It's a stand-alone "one-holer" unit at the Olde Town Transit Station Plaza.
“This is a pretty important thing in Olde Town, joke about it as we may,” said John Marriott, Arvada Mayor ProTem, the Arvada Press reported. “But one of these days this train platform is going to be crawling with people who are going places and coming here and having facilities for them is really important.”
City planners started really talking about the public bathroom in May of 2017, when excitement about the 3,000 potential commuters daily on the G-Line was in the air. (The light-rail line is still bogged down in RTD testing). Having a public restroom in Olde Town was planned to alleviate the burden on the library, businesses and the Visitor's Center a city document said.

The need for the restroom was dire, for sanitation reasons too:
"[The public restroom] will also reduce issues with human waste in the alleys throughout Olde Town," planners said.

The "Portland Loo" is used in Portland, New Zealand and Canada, the Arvada Press reported.
“It provides the ability to be used appropriately without any of the potential nefarious uses that a public restroom could possibly be used for,” Marriott said.
