Ride-Alongs And Safety: Arvada Police Release Videos
Arvada police are giving residents an inside view of police work with video series.
ARVADA, CO – The Arvada Police Department is working to give residents an inside view into police work in the city with a series of videos. While there's no squad-car karaoke (yet) the videos serve as a glimpse into police work, as well as a view of the Arvada PD for future recruits. Metro Denver police departments and sheriff's offices are competing for good candidates.
Most recently, this week, the Arvada PD released a day-in-the-patrolman's life of Officer J. Aching with a video "ride along."
Achtung's Sept. 8 patrol of the city's "Baker Sector" follows the officer to a domestic violence call that evolves into a warrant arrest, and finally a drug bust.

"You can't just assume you're going to go on a disturbance because it may turn into a domestic, it may turn into a drug offense," Achtung says. "You never know what you're going to get on any call."

Videos are produced by the city's video team of Wendy Brockman, Thomas Martinez, and Damon Parrish.
The department also used the "ride-along" video format to introduce new Arvada Police Chief Link Strate in a video produced shortly after Strate was selected for the position.
In a series of in-squad questions with Arvada Mayor Marc Williams, Strate gives his history 31-year career with a Arvada PD. "I had a sergeant tell me that the majority of the people we come into contact with aren't bad guys... they are ordinary everyday people who got themselves into a bad situation and made poor decisions," Strate said. "That stayed with me throughout my career." Strate said policing has involved to listening to the community more.
The department also released a safety video by Arvada PD Spokesman Detective Dave Snelling about the traffic rules that help keep pedestrians safe when children return to school. Snelling talks about the importance of speed limits that give drivers "Time to Stop" in case of an accident.
