Boulder Riot Investigation Update: 10 Arrests, 3 Warrants

BOULDER, CO — Five months after a riot broke out on University Hill in Boulder, 10 people have been arrested, and three warrants remain outstanding, police said.

Boulder Police Department investigators, CU Boulder police and the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office spent hundreds of hours reviewing more than 1,000 video submissions and tips, police said.

“We knew early on that due to the massive amounts of evidence this would be a long investigation and then the mass shooting at King Soopers caused further delays,” Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold said in a statement.

“We made a promise to our community that there would be arrests and even though it has been a long road we kept that promise.”

The March 6 riot began as a small party near 19th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue and hundreds showed up, police said.

"The party then turned destructive and violent when officers attempted to disperse the crowd," the Boulder Police Department said in a news release.

"Police officers were struck with bricks and rocks and first responders’ vehicles were heavily damaged."

Many cars that were parked in the neighborhood were damaged. One was "flipped over by a mob and another that was struck with objects as it attempted to drive south on 10th Street," the news release read.

"Many Street signs in the area were damaged."

The CU Boulder Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution received around 200 referrals for possible violations under the university’s student code of conduct, police said.
